Das Zomba Central Hospital versorgt 6 Millionen Menschen in Malawi, Ostafrika. Es gibt schon eine ganze Reihe Computer und einige sind auch miteinander verbunden. Ein Krankenhausnetzwerk existiert nicht. Es gibt aber jetzt digitales Röntgen und auch einen Computertomographen womit die Notwendigkeit entsteht die entstandenen Bilder auf den Stationen, in den OPs und Sprechzimmern zu sehen. Die Krankenhausleitung wünscht sich deshalb den Aufbau einer eigenen IT – Abteilung und eines Krankenhausnetzwerkes. Der Verein Zomba Hospital Projekt e. V. (https://zombaprojekt.de; Instagram: @zombahospital) unterstützt das Krankenhaus seit 1996. Er ist im Moment dabei, Fördermittel für diese Aufgabe einzuwerben und sucht Fachkräfte, die sich zutrauen, den ersten Abschnitt des Aufbaus eines Datennetzes im Rahmen eines Zweijahresprojektes zu begleiten. Es werden mehrwöchige Aufenthalte vor Ort notwendig, Reisekosten und Lebensunterhalt (bis 3000/Monat) können übernommen werden. Erwartet wird, über die gesamte Projektzeit remote die Arbeiten weiter zu begleiten, was dann aber ehrenamtlich wäre.
Data network for a non-paying hospital In Malawi, East Africa – who wants to contribute knowledge and time?
Zomba Central Hospital caters for 6 million in Malawi, East Africa. It has already a few computers and some of them are connected, but there is no hospital network. Since the hospital has recently switched to digital X-ray and CT there is need to access medical images at the point of care. Therefore, the hospital management decided to establish an IT department that builds a hospital wide data network and looks after its safety.
At Zomba Hospital Projekt e.V. (ZHPeV) we are a team of volunteers (https://zombaprojekt.de; Instagram: @zombahospital) that has been supporting this hospital since 1996. Currently we are applying for third party funding to develop the IT department and lay the foundation for the hospital data network. In this context 4 Malawians will come to Germany for training. For the technical work on the ground in Malawi we are looking for a person that has the necessary knowledge and is ready to contribute time over the two years period. At the current state of planning, we expect the need to be in Malawi perhaps twice for two months. Cost of travel and contribution to livelihood up to 3000€/month while in Malawi could be covered. Remote work is expected to be in-kind.
